I made a few new friends. I made a few new friends thanks to my established extraordinary friends.
Melanie & I met at Sears on Saturday afternoon to complete a mission that had been set forth for two months.
I needed a bed.
So my friends bought me one. Simple. Insane. Unfathomable. But true. A card with a dozen signatures from friends near and far accompanied a wad of bills to give me rest. I cried enough when I realized what was happening that we could have all grabbed a chair and sailed away. This punctuated a night of dog walking, Jameson swigging and a surprise ticket to see Bruce Springsteen. One of those days that become fuel for the battle.
And that brings us to Saturday, when the day had come.
I found Melanie at Sears, lounging on a brown couch. We made our way to the bed section. There I met Peter. Peter is exactly how I would cast the bed salesman in the movie of my life. Soft grey hair, patient demeaner, stiff blazer and heavy shoes. Peter approached us and got an earful. But budget and back problems were of no worry to Peter. He led us to our first selection and we got started.
Melanie and I vigorously rested on many beds and finally narrowed it down to two. A young fella wandered around while we lied on my favorite one. You could tell he wanted to investigate. I invited him to join me.
We were both very happy. We decided it was the perfect bed for us. Right price, great quality. Me and the young fella had made our decision. We high fived, climbed out of bed and went our separate ways.
I was nearly jumping up and down when Peter checked me in. I was so happy to have actualized the amazing gift I have been given. Thankful for my wonderful support system. Thankful that I was moving forward. Looking forward to an amazing sleep.
Peter is a sweetheart. He included a set of sheets. Young fella: not included.
